Do-jahng

"Do-jahng" is the Korean word for the Taekwondo school, our Do-jahng is located in the O'Brien's shopping center at the corner of Pelandale Avenue and Dale Road in Modesto.  The front and side areas areset aside for business activities, the public to watch classes and student preparation.  The blue area is covered with mats for safety and is reserved for the students. Entrance to the mats is in the rear by the attendance card racks and exit from the map is to the front by the business counter.  There are rules the public and student observe in the Do-Jahng out of respect to the Art of Taekwondo, the Instructor, and fellow students.  In addition to explaining the attire and etiquette of the Do-jahng, frequently used words and terms as well as a brief Taekwondo history are included to help understand the atmosphere in which Taekwondo is taught.

Student Etiquette

  • Bow each time you enter or exit the Do-jahng as a show of respect to Taekwondo and the Do-jahng.

  • Bow each time you enter or exit the practice area as a show of respect for your instructor and fellow students.

  • Address your instructors and black belts as "sir" or "ma'am".. answer all questions with "Yes, Sir","Yes Ma'am","No Sir","No Ma'am" with respect.

  • Pay very close attention in every class and focus your attention and concentration as directed by your instructor in concert with the Songahm Spirit of Taekwondo.

  • Trim all toenails and fingernails to insure safety in your partner drills; wear a clean uniform on a clean body as a courtesy to the other  students.

  • Bring your required safety equipment to every class.

  • Put your name on every piece of your equipment and on your equipment bag.

  • DO NOT chew gum in class.

  • Do not wiggle, fidget, fall down, move around or otherwise display undisciplined, unthinking or inconsiderate body language in class.  Once you have learned and memorized the Songahm Spirit of Taekwondo, you know that in class you are "developing your personal discipline and a high level of personal spirit in order to bring out the best in yourself and others."

  • Do not spar without instructor supervision; do not spar without wearing all safety gear.

  • Do not place your belt, that you've spent so much energy earning, on the floor or ground...your belt represents the respect that you've earned.

             Public Etiquette

  • Do not run, play or talk loudly in the spectator area (this distracts the students in class).
  • Do not talk with or advise your child during class unless requested to do so by the Instructor. Attention and concentration of the student is being developed by the Instructor in concert with the Songham Spirit of Taekwondo. Your intervention with your child breaks that link.
